In
the story of Helter Skelter, the acoustic session of Rosa Mota, recorded
in january 1994, is the most beautiful thing.
A Drag For A Drag,
their first mini-lp was released in july 1993 and by chance, a friend
of mine knew them and as they managed to get a gig in Paris at
Le Rex Club, we planned this session. Recorded
at the old Aligre Fm's studio, a tiny sort
of aquarium where the 5 members tried to get some space to themselves,
in a couple of hours they succeeded in turning their noisy rock into
dreamy and wistful ballads.
At the time, i was quite in a bad times and as soon as the first song
began, they nearly saved my life. It's a shame they didn't get after
that the success they deserve. They recorded their last album Bionic
with Steve Albini in 1996 but couldn't
help to split in 1998.
The set list is : Are We Having Fun Yet,
Cold, New Closure?, Spanish Fly. The line-up
for this sessions was :
guitar, singer - Ian Bishop, guitar, singer - Julie Rumsey, guitar -
Sacha Galvagna, bass, Michelle Marti - drum, Justin Chapman.
Ian & Sasha have since formed Horsepower,
not to be confused with 16 Horsepower. They have released one album
Lafayette in march 2001 on Nickle
and Dime records.
